Introduction to WFPB - Week 4

I’m so proud of myself for finally making this commitment to myself and going on this journey because it brought out an even better version of me.

I feel a sense of clarity at the end of this month. It is clear that when I know something is going to be good for me I need to trust myself and commit. Living my life as I currently am will not bring me happiness. I need to be committing to my fitness, travel and take the risk to be a dietician. I knew that transitioning to a plant based way of life would be good but I was too scared for a long time to make anyone else’s life inconvenient, but in doing that I was only making myself smaller. I feel more focused on my purpose after this experience.

Key takeaways from this journey:

  • I honestly cannot remember the last time I had this level of energy. I can make it through my entire day without feeling sluggish

  • Always bring something you know you can eat before going to someone’s house

  • Check restaurant menus before you go (they pretty much all will have something but nice to have a plan before you go)

  • Experiment with new recipes

  • Share your journey and new foods with those around you. You just might surprise them!

  • Always have nuts and fruit around

  • Digestion for the win!

“The Proof is in the Plants” (Simon Hill) - Takeaways

“All the food industry has to do to protect its market share is to create enough confusion that it’s hard for the average person to know how and why to make healthy changes to their plate.” (Hill, 31)

Growing up with ads on TV for miracle pills and green juices to an adult hearing about Keto and Paleo, I myself was too confused for too long. With this incredible misinformation out there how can you blame anyone for not knowing what the right healthy choices are. Those that sell food products know that and they sell that. They sell confusion.

“It would take a brave political party to enact significant policy changes that prioritize health over profits…lower rates of disease would mean fewer jobs in these industries, lower sales of junk food, less reason to buy insurance, less revenue for the government and a financial hit to the economy. Improving our health and reducing preventable deaths starts to look less financially attractive for the powerful players.” (Hill, 41)

We are in the business of sick-care and not health care.

Food Find Of The Week

So I love ice cream, besides cheese I was very interested to see how painful giving up ice cream would be. It took me about 5 try’s to find a very good plat-based yogurt, would I ever find an ice cream?
Guess what, I did! Oh it is so good too. Same consistency of ice cream and same dreamy rich flavor. This is the stuff!

As I move into serious marathon and triathlon training I’m curious to see how my eating and cravings will adjust. I’m excited for this journey to continue!
